The Virginia Supreme Court struck down the Hampton Roads Transportation Authority today when it ruled that the taxes and fees it was authorized to collect by the General Assembly are unconstitutional.
This is good news for Virginia Beach VA home buyers. Part of the proposed taxes would increase the grantors tax on property sales rom 10 cents per $100 of the sale price to 50 cents per $100. The tax on a house sold for $250,000 would $1,250, a $1,000 increase.
